On determination, passion, and empowerment: Leon DC’s latest single ‘Zen’

You may not know what time it is, but our artist for today surely does. A solo artist from Woolwich, Leon DC has had a passion for music ever since he can remember. He has been making music for about four years now and defines his story so far as ‘random.’ The solo artist, along with this is also a volleyball player who represented the national team on numerous occasions. He is currently studying music at the University of East London on a volleyball sports scholarship.

Born and raised in South London, the 27-year-old artist has been performing his songs across London in different venues with original backing tracks since 2020. He likes to be versatile with his music though he mainly does R&B music, taking creative inspiration from Labrinth, his major influence as an artist along with Giveon and Khalid. The artist whose favourite instrument is the electric guitar, cannot do without his headphones, microphone, volleyball, laptop and phone.

His latest release ‘Zen,’ is an expression of how he has been feeling lately. Released on the 7th of October, the song is about everything the artist felt around that time. As the listener can witness, the song has emotions of empowerment, determination, and passion beautifully brought out by Leon. The majority of the lyrics of the song came to him while he was playing NBA 2K20.

With editing and getting the ideas together taking up the majority of the time, ‘Zen’ took more than a week to finish for the singer-songwriter. The artwork of the single was also done by him and was recorded at his home studio while jamming with a few of his friends.
