For Avra Banerjee, music is more than just sound—it’s the rhythm of transformation. Born in Siliguri, raised in Kolkata, and now based in Perth, Avra’s journey has been shaped by an endless curiosity to merge tradition with modernity. While leading a professional career in IT, he has never let go of his first love. His compositions carry the discipline of his professional life and the soul of a lifelong student of music. Having collaborated with legends like Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri, Ustad Taufiq Qureshi, and Hariharan, Avra stands as a composer who refuses to be boxed in by genres. Ghazal, Sufi, rock, or Indo-Western fusion—his work thrives on diversity, yet always feels deeply personal.

That personal touch flows beautifully into his latest release, “Pehli Sawan”, which dropped on September 5, 2025. The track is Avra’s romantic ode to the season’s first rains, a song that feels like stepping into a world painted with longing and tenderness. With its graceful rhythm and soothing melody, the song creates an atmosphere that listeners can sink into. At its heart is Avra’s vision—an ability to craft soundscapes where tradition and contemporary emotions meet.

The song wouldn’t be complete without its collaborators: Debanjali Lily Chatterjee’s heartfelt vocals, Ruma Chanda’s evocative lyrics, Tamal Kanti Halder’s arrangements, and Sobhan Ahmadyar’s tabla, all tied together by Shamik Guha Roy’s mixing. Yet, it is Avra’s guidance and composition that bring these elements into harmony, giving “Pehli Sawan” both elegance and intimacy. Interestingly, the track began as a semi-classical piece for live shows before Avra reshaped it into a contemporary ballad, proving his instinct for reinvention.

Interestingly, the track didn’t begin in its current form. Avra originally composed it as a semi-classical piece for live performances. Over time, however, he reshaped it into something more contemporary without losing its roots. This transformation gave the song a new freshness, allowing it to bloom into the graceful, modern romantic ballad that it is today. Recorded collaboratively across cities—composed in Perth and sung in Kolkata—the project is proof of how music transcends distance and unites diverse talents into one seamless creation.

With “Pehli Sawan”, Avra Banerjee isn’t just offering a romantic track for the season—he’s reaffirming his place as an artist who creates music that lingers, resonates, and stays with you long after the final note fades.
