Savaal Magazine’s "Push Play" is your definitive weekly guide to the freshest music making waves! This week, we're celebrating two fearless acts that define originality: a long-distance trio who built their debut sound on chaos and an indie drum maestro who refuses all rules, and . It's time to find your next obsession!
1. Only Sometimes: Beparvah
Meet Only Sometimes (Spotify), the genre-rejecting trio that proves great music has no geography. Comprised of three diverse producers Shubverse (Mumbai), Gaurish Batra (Ambala), and Frozn Colors (Patna); this group became close friends online before officially forming in early 2025, coordinating their creative process almost entirely via Discord. They are united by a common exhaustion with predictable modern music and a shared goal of embracing chaos. Their unique, evolving sound is born from the intentional collision of their individual strengths: Shubverse brings those infectious electro-funk grooves, Gaurish Batra adds an indie warmth, and Frozn Colors rounds out the eclectic mix. They thrive on the experimental challenge of seeing their varied tastes contrast and compete on every track.
Their powerful debut single, “Beparvah” (which releases today, October 17, 2025!), is a perfect encapsulation of their combined energy. The title means "carefree," and the track is a collective expression of the frustrations of everyday life, delivered with a core message of letting go. Intended initially as a club track, the song defied genre expectations, quickly morphing into a melancholic electro-funk/indie concoction. It takes listeners on a sonic journey, starting with a sentimental buildup that explodes into the chorus, and ultimately settles into a wistful, hopeful outro emphasizing that even the lowest points in life hold important lessons. Follow the musical chaos on their Instagram and watch the unified reflection of their collective experiences in the official video on YouTube.
2. The Cheeseball Giant: Gulabi
The Cheeseball Giant (Spotify), the fantastic stage name for Mumbai's Joshua Dsouza, isn't just a musician; he’s an anti-algorithm artist. While he started learning music at age 8 and picked up the guitar from his dad, it was the drums which he began studying after the 10th grade that truly became his instrument and his passion. By 2014, he was playing with every band he could find, absorbing the skills he needed to create original music today. Joshua’s philosophy is simple: he makes music "without respect for Genre, Algorithm and Stereotype," using his immense toolkit to bring out the sounds he hears in his head, which he believes are nothing short of beautiful. If you’re tired of predictable playlists, The Cheeseball Giant is your new hero.
His latest track, “Gulabi,” perfectly captures his genre-defying spirit. The song was spontaneously born from a simple guitar doodle he played while his then-fiancé was journaling, proving that sometimes the best ideas need to simmer. What you hear today is a sonic explosion recorded entirely in his own bedroom studio; the shout-out to his indie roots is deafening! Gulabi is dense, packed with intricately and rhythmically placed sounds, including various percussions, drums, guitars, and bass, all recorded by the Giant himself. The track is beautifully rounded out by the vocal contributions and lyrics from close friends Nidhi Wagle and Sudin Nair. Be sure to check out his Instagram and subscribe to his YouTube channel; he’s shooting and editing the video for "Gulabi" himself!
