Silverfinger Singh | Artist Spotlight

Rajpal Singh Matharu aka Silverfinger Singh is a 33-year old Punjabi fusion rapper and songwriter born and raised in Leeds, England. He has been part of the music scene in the UK since 2018. Since then, he has garnered considerable support from local as well as international radio stations such as BBC Radio Leeds, Fever FM and BBC Asian Network. He is the prodigy of renowned percussionist and music producer Inder ‘Goldfinger’ Matharu, who has worked with artists like Fun-Da-Mental and Transglobal Underground. Raj’s musical influences include Bob Marley, Foreign Beggars and Ian Brown from the Stone Roses.

His new track ‘The Kaur’ was released on January 26, 2021. Silverfinger tells us that the song is a tribute to his grandmother, who has been a major influence in him taking up music. The song is a narration of his childhood and reflects the times of happiness and learning. He recalls how his grandmother was a big fan of Bob Marley, leading to the Reggae hints in the song. The track also features vocals by Manuka. Raj’s dad Goldfinger also played an important part in the production and live tabla parts of the song. The music video for the track was shot between tour dates in 2019.

Silverfinger tells us that the tabla is his favourite instruments and that it has molded his life. He began writing songs at the age of 15. Since the release of his first EP ‘Education Road’ in 2018, he has been frequently touring across the UK and also hosts a radio show named ‘The Mixtape’ on BBC Radio where he showcases Indian music. He says that music has always been in his blood, thanks to his father and grandmother. If the opportunity presents itself, he would love to work with Prabh Deep and Skip Marley.
